As many of you know writing a book is only half the battle nowadays. If you are a good writer, and want your words out there, you need something more. Writers cannot work alone, even though we wish we could simply live at the keyboard, swilling our drinks of choice (in my case hot tea or water) and dwelling in the lands of our imaginations and our words.
Sure we can choose to do that, but if we want our words to be seen by others we need help. I am one of luckiest women alive. I have so many people who have been supportive and helped me not give up. I also have a good friend who happens to be an incredibly talented artist who makes a living creating things like this.
She agreed to lend her talent to designing a cover for P.O.W.ER and I couldn’t love it more.
So I have a cover. Thank you Jackie!
I have a publisher: WORD HERMIT PRESS
I have a publication date: December 1, 2014
Now, I need your help. This book is about empowering people, women and men, who believe in equality. It is young adult speculative fiction, but I hope that it speaks to a wider audience and generations of people who realize that everyone has unique abilities to offer the world. I want this book to be a promoter of change.
But first, a tiny excerpt:
“All right, fine, we trust you,” Alice said at last. “But I’m still not sure what this little group of women with powers can do to change anything.”
“I’m not sure yet, either,” I said, “I know the Ministry fears the power of women, so we need to find anyone who shows any sign of unusual abilities and help those powers grow. If we do that, perhaps we can make the changes we need.”
“Power of Women,” Heidi said. “That would be a great name for our group. POW!”
Several women laughed.
“Or P.O.W.,” Alice said. “Didn’t that stand for Prisoner of War or something in the old days?”
“Then it’s the perfect name.” Words began to form inside me, as if my ability to write reality was growing into an ability to speak and be heard. “Aren’t all women, in a way, prisoners of war? We are prisoners of a silent, weaponless war intended to strip us of power, freedom and the ability to think and act for ourselves. It’s time we learned to fight this war on our own grounds, and create a world where everyone, male or female, has the right to live to her, or his, full potential. I’m tired of living by rules that don’t allow me to live fully, and I have no intention of obediently walking into marriage because someone says I must.”
“Well, that puts me in my place, doesn’t it?” Peter said.
Everyone laughed. Brian laughed the loudest.
For each book sold, I plan to donate $1.00 to causes that support women and children around the world (I am not sure yet what the cost of the book will be but that donation amount is firm in my mind).
But I can’t do this unless I sell books. It’s as simple as that. So I need your help, in several ways:
- Give me recommendations for the cause or causes I should support. I want to research them and choose the best.
- Help me get this book out there by reading, reviewing, and recommending.
- Suggest groups or locations that you think might be interested in having me come talk and share.
- Become of member of my P.O.W. army. I’m still working out what this means, but if you want to help in any way, please email me your mailing address and I promise you will hear from me soon. You can email me at email@example.com.
The journey has begun, will you join me?
